The Strategic Leadership Forum (SLF) is proud to present an exciting breakfast seminar on Human capital measurement - once purely "art" - has matured into a science.

Led by Keri Alletson, Research Director at Towers Watson, Keri plays a key role in research initiatives aimed at helping organizations maximize their employee engagement, wellbeing and business performance.

In this session, we'll share Towers Watson's approach to human capital measurement, which uses a rigorous framework to quantify the value of people-related investments relative to business outcomes. Armed with actionable data, we'll share how organizations can make better business decisions about how, and how much, to invest in practices and programs, and ultimately, enhance operating efficiency and workforce productivity.

Under the financial pressures of the current economic climate, many organizations are looking for better ways to measure, monitor and improve their operating efficiency. To develop this key strategic capability, organizations are increasingly turning to scorecards, benchmarks and metrics, both across the enterprise and within business units and functions.

In the absence of relevant, credible data, making sound decisions about scarce resources is difficult - and quantifying progress almost impossible. In response to this widespread challenge, Towers Watson has developed a revolutionary approach to help organizations focus on the metrics that matter, avoiding the mistake of "measurement for measurement's sake", and ensuring that links to business outcomes are simple and clear.

Human capital measurement, as a science, can provide a competitive advantage to organizations seeking to understand and manage both the true costs and return on their workforce investments. Building on our research into workforce behaviour and business outcomes, our approach to human capital metrics incorporates four critical areas:

  • Human Capital Productivity: Business measures of workforce productivity
  • Talent Management: Benchmarks on performance, turnover, recruitment, development and engagement for key segments including leadership, pivotal roles, high potentials, and the broad employee population
  • Total Labour Cost/ Rewards Effectiveness: Efficiency of rewards programs and return on investments linked to workforce measures
  • HR Function Performance: Efficiency and effectiveness of HR service delivery.

Armed with this kind of information, organizations can make better decisions about how much, and where, to invest in practices and programs that enhance workforce productivity- or, in today's environment, where cuts in programs will have the least adverse impact.
