Strategic Leadership Forum and Strategic Capability Network are proud to present Learning Agility - A Research Based Measure of Potential Friday, June 18th, 2010 7:30am-9:30am 7:30am - 8:00am: Registration 8:00am - 9:30am: Session The National Club 303 Bay Street between King & Adelaide Streets In the face of the demographic and leadership supply challenges facing most organizations today, it has become critically important to accurately identify, develop and deploy "high potential" talent. What separates the remarkable from the merely good is the ability to perform well under first-time, challenging conditions. These high potential people are what we call learning agile; they can take lessons from the past and fit them into new and different challenges they are facing. They are able to answer the question: What do you do when you dont know what to do? When it comes to talent and potential, learning agility separates the best from the rest. To succeed in the long term, organizations need high potentials. Research shows the following characteristics differentiate high potentials from others in the organization: - Easily learn new tasks and functions; enjoy and deal well with ambiguity and complexity
- Dont accept the status quo; are impatient
- Like to try new things, different approaches; tend to push the envelope
- Willing to take the heat when things fail.
With good intentions, organizations can handicap their talent when they inaccurately assess or overestimate their potential. The wrong development path for employees hurts them by stalling or derailing their career success. So how are truly learning agile high potential individuals identified, and what types of developmental opportunities do they need to gain over the course of their careers? This session will combine research findings on high potentials and how to identify them using the concept of Learning Agility and how AVIVA has implemented a program to assess and develop high potentials with a disciplined talent review process.
