Donald E. Baer is a former President of the organization and has served on our board since 1999. During that time he initiated a dynamic new strategic planning process and he instituted a tightly-controlled benchmarking system. Don also introduced two innovative new programs: the Book Group and our annual Strategy on the ROAD, and he was a keynote speaker at the highly-successful Strategy on the EDGE conference in 2002. More recently, he served as chair of the SLF Editorial Committee.
Don retired from RBC in 2004, after a 23-year career that began in 1981 at the Royal Bank's Latin American & Caribbean headquarters. Before that, he was an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and Research Officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.
In 2005, Don spent six weeks in Bolivia as a volunteer with the Canadian Executive Service Organization (CESO), where he conducted a series of workshops (in Spanish) on leadership and strategic planning.
In addition to his activities with the SLF, Don has served on the Sheridan College Program Advisory Committee for International Business and on the Board of Directors of the Oakville Chamber Orchestra.
Don holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Illinois.
